Making the difference for children and families in North East
Making a difference
in the North East

Children North East is the longest established children's charity in the North East of England, founded in 1891 as the Poor Children's Holiday Association.

Over the years the work has changed considerably but the charity's aims and objectives have always been the same - to ensure that every child, young person and family who uses their services are helped to overcome their difficulties and that they go on to reach their full potential in life.

The number and range of projects that Children North East manages is wide and constantly changing and as a voluntary organisation the support of the community is critical to ensure their work can continue. To learn more about the history of Children North East and to read about current projects please visit their website on www.children-ne.org.

A children's charity is celebrating after scooping a funding boost from a lottery which operates across the region. Children North East, which helps youngsters living in poor communities fulfil their potential, has received £20,644 from GoodFund, the charitable arm of the Postcode Lottery. The lottery selects winners by their postcodes and donates at least 20% of its ticket sales to six charities, including Children North East.

One of lottery beneficiary Children North East's projects is Out of School Club based at Hill Court Temporary Accommodation in Newcastle. Flats at Hill Court are allocated to people who have become homeless for one reason or another. They are basic and not at all homely but for many families they are a place to stay until they can be re-homed in a more permanent place.
