MORE HELP FOR OLDER PEOPLE IN NORTHUMBERLAND

Over 50s in Northumberland are celebrating the launch of Age Concern’s brand new £1.5 million headquarters in Ashington.
Funded in part by a £10,000 donation from GoodFund via players of the People’s Postcode Lottery, the development, which is in its first phase, will offer new opportunities for learning and initiatives to help local people into work. 
It will also provide much-needed capacity for new services to help people aged 50+ keep well and active as they get older.  These include homecare, social day care, dementia day care, meals-on-wheels, health promotion and information services.
Madeleine Elliot, Chair of Age Concern Northumberland, said:
“After several years of planning, it is great to see this exciting development open to the public.  Age Concern Northumberland is committed to helping improve people’s quality of life and we are looking forward to the creation of new opportunities and services with the Resource Centre.  But the hard work goes on.  We are now fundraising for the second phase of the Centre and hope to start work on this £1.3million project in Spring 2008.”
