Update on Missing People in the North of England
14/01/2008

Mark
Missing People was contacted by Mark’s daughter in November who had not seen him since she was 7. Susan now aged 19, she was not 100% sure of his date of birth and we explained that this would make it harder for us to find him, but she was still very keen. The first enquiry made via one of our partners on the case came back with a trace of a possible address and a letter was sent to Mark via the third party straight away. Four days before Christmas, Missing People received a call from Mark who wanted to be back in contact with his daughter and we were able to pass on his daughter’s details to him. Susan said it was the best Christmas present ever.

Simon
Simon went missing from a Mental Health ward in the Midlands but was known to have made a phone call from the North East area not long after he went missing. Simon’s family were concerned about publicity because some members of his family were old and may find it quite difficult to deal with, so the Missing People case worker made sure that the family were happy with the wording and stayed in daily contact to offer support.

Missing People’s case worker working on the case, sent out posters to pubs and fast food restaurants in the cities in the North East area, so get his appeal circulated to as many people wandering around as possible. The first phone call Missing People received as a result of this was a landlady of a pub who had also called the police as she recognised him as a man who was currently homeless in her area. Police were able to pick him up and he was taken to hospital.

John
Missing People was contacted by John’s brother at the beginning of 2007. John had not been in contact with his family for a couple of years and had fallen out with his parents again, whom which he had always had a difficult relationship. Missing People made a number of enquires throughout the year and supported John’s brother, who was worried as he did not think John would be very good at coping on his own. Towards the end of last year, one of our letters reached John and he gave us a call. John said he was ecstatic to get our letter, he had wanted to put some of his difficulties with his family behind him, and this had helped him make a start. John was keen to be reunited with his brother and both are now in regular contact.
