Children participate in National Science Week
This week GoodFund beneficiary Groundwork has worked with over 500 local school children.
They were invited to investigate how eco friendly their new flagship project is - The Greenhouse,
based at Annfield Plane in County Durham.
Children from Stanley and Consett were the first to visit the Greenhouse and learn
about the various green technologies incorporated in the construction of this business
centre as part of National Science Week.
Pupils and teachers have worked with Groundwork staff to carry out several experiments
looking at the effectiveness of a variety of energy sources used in the development
including solar, wind and water.
Claire Longstaff, project officer at Groundwork West Durham comments on the week's activities saying:
"We hope that the events organized during National Science Week will be the first of many activities
involving schools throughout Derwentside and across the county. We would like to roll out a fun and
informative educational programme that uses the Greenhouse principals as an example of good practice"
The Greenhouse was completed earlier this month and is the first of a new prototype of business
centres developed by environmental charity Groundwork West Durham.
