Out of school club
Your lottery ticket gives homeless children a break
One of lottery beneficiary Children North East's projects is Out of School Club
based at Hill Court Temporary Accommodation in Newcastle. Flats at Hill Court
are allocated to people who have become homeless for one reason or another.
They are basic and not at all homely but for many families they are a place
to stay until they can be re-homed in a more permanent place.
The Out of School Club can be a lifeline for many of the children
who are living at Hill Court - often some distance from all they
find familiar and from their own school. Perhaps the following
poem written by one of the children who attends may sum up how they feel.
My Feelings
Everyone starts tease's me at school when they read my work and it has my address on Pitt Street
Everyone calls it SHIT Street for some reason. I Don't like it when people call it that because
it just a street where people tay till they find a house just because I live in Pitt
street it doesn't mean it is a dump.
The thing I like about Pitt Street is the CLUB it is absolutely fun!
You could do anything you want like make pizza and anything but the most exciting
is in the holidays you get to go on trips.
